The new format has re-shuffled the order of sprint events across an F1 race weekend, with both qualifying and the shortened race taking place before any grand prix events, which retain their traditional Saturday (qualifying) and Sunday (race) schedules.
Max Verstappen and Red Bull look likely to retain their position as the best ‘sprinters’ in the field for the first sprint race of the season in China. The Flying Dutchman won sprint events in Austria, Belgium, the US and Brazil last year, while team-mate Sergio Perez picked up a win in Azerbaijan and McLaren‘s Oscar Piastri scored a career-first victory in Qatar.
Ferrari‘s Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz as well as Lewis Hamilton, George Russell, Lando Norris and Fernando Alonso will also be hoping to get in on the winning action in 2024.
