The 2009 Formula 1 champion will race for Honda in the Japanese GT series’ GT500 class, as announced at the ‘Honda Thanks Day’ – a racing festival – at Motegi on Sunday.
“It’s been a dream for the last couple of years, I love the category – I did one race at Suzuka earlier in the year, and it got me really excited. I’m very excited about the new season!” said Button, who raced the Suzuka 1000km this year, which will change to the Suzuka 10 Hours in 2018.
The 25th Super GT season kicks off at Okayama on April 7 and ends November 11 at Motegi. Honda has not announced a full driver line-up yet, with the manufacturer – one of three in Super GT alongside Nissan and Lexus – to reveal its roster by February.
