Although Renault entered F1 this year, much of its focus was on Le Mans and the team was off to a flyer at La Sarthe – here the A442 of Jean-Pierre Jabouille and Derek Bell leading a line of French and German power. Not one of the four Renault-Alpines finished, the final car dropping out before midday on Sunday; 1978 would be a different story.
