V-E-Vodds & Ends

V-E-Vodds & Ends.—To set the record straight, let us correct, unprompted, the results of the big racing-car class at the last VSCC Prescott hill-climb. These should have read: 1st A. Cottam (Connaught), 43.24s.; 2nd P. Van-Rossam (Cooper-Bristol), 45.77s,; S. Phillips (328 BMW), 45.87s. We hear that the Lea-Francis show at Coventry Museum was very well staged and that the Lea-Francis OC's...

"Shropshire Star" VCC Rally

Cold, wet weather marked this two-day event for pre-1914 cars. After making their own way to Bridgnorth for the distance contest, competitors had a two-day rally route, mainly over easy roads that took them round the Wrekin in Shropshire. At the start we noted that Pittaway's 1903 Phoenix Trimo had front brakes, and pedals for light human assistance up the hills. The oldest car was Wilkins' 1901...

VSCC Silverstone

The first VSCC race meeting of the season attracted the expected full grandstands and was run in cold but dry weather until the final race. It will be remembered as "Romulus Day", for the excellent reason that Narisa Chakrabongse, daughter of the late Prince Chula, had extracted that "Bira" ERA from the NMM and had let Bill Morris resuscitate it, so that he could be the first driver, other than...

"Daily Express" Silverstone Races

A Pageant of Speed Silverstone, Northamptonshire, May 14th. The annual day of racing on the Silverstone circuit, organised by the B.R.D.C., started off at 10.30 a.m, on a bright and sunny morning with a 35-lap race for sports cars, the majority of which were using large American V8 engines. The entry was mostly of Group 7 FIA 2-seater racers, with the addition of a few homologated Group 4 sports...

Veteran Edwardian Vintage

A Section Devoted to Old-Car Matters VSCC Silverstone Meeting, July 13th: Another good day's racing racing, with the rain keeping off until it was over, before a large crowd, saw Morley with the largest car present, the 24-litre Bentley-Napier, and Coles with one of the smallest, his s/c 746 c.c. MG, make it Doubles, and Neil come out of his corner to win the Hawthorn Memorial Trophy Race with...

VSCC At Donington

The VSCC ran a cold but interesting meeting at Donington on May 7th, sponsored by Pirelli—so it was appropriate that MOTOR SPORT's Editor arrived on Pirelli tyres, although I have to admit to a Dunlop spare. Appropriately again, Edwards won the five-lap Handicap for the Brooklands Society Trophy in his much-raced, ex-Brooklands Ulster Aston Martin, from Borrows' Alvis Speed-25 and Stewart's 3/4½...
