The biggest day in UK motor racing is almost upon us: Silverstone will host the next F1 race, the 2025 British Grand Prix, on July 6 as Lando Norris looks to extend his winning run with a home win.

Victory in Austria moved Norris to within 15 points of team-mate and championship leader Oscar Piastri, while Max Verstappen looks to be dropping out of contention, having been nerfed out of the race by Kimi Antonelli.

But although the title race looks to be decided by the McLaren drivers, they may not have it all their own way at this weekend’s British Grand Prix, where there are several potential home winners.

Lewis Hamilton has a chance of repeating his 2024 victory, thanks to an improving Ferrari that’s set for another upgrade at Silverstone. Montreal winner George Russell too is likely to be in the mix, particularly if the temperature cools to better suit his Mercedes.

Summer season

Following the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on July 6, there’s a three-week gap to the Belgian Grand Prix, followed by the Hungarian Grand Prix on August 3. F1 then takes a summer break until the Dutch Grand Prix on August 31.

Season run-in

The final run-in mirrors the 2024 season, with races in Baku and Singapore before an extended run in the Americas: Austin, Mexico, Brazil and Las Vegas precede the final two rounds in Qatar and Abu Dhabi — another triple header to bring the year to a close on December 7.

When is the 2025 British Grand Prix?

This year’s British Grand Prix comes a weekend after the Austrian Grand Prix, and takes place on July 6. There’s no sprint race, so it will follow the format of a standard F1 race weekend. That means there will be two practice sessions on Friday July 4, followed by a final practice on Saturday morning before qualifying on Saturday afternoon at 3pm BST. Sunday’s race starts at 3pm BST.

Where is the 2025 British Grand Prix?

Silverstone has been the uninterrupted home of the British 1987, and the former Second World War airbase will once again host the race in 2025, 75 years after it held the very first world championship grand prix in 1950.

The layout has changed considerably since then, when the high-speed route tracked the perimeter route of the old airfield. The current format is still quick — with the fourth-fastest average speed on the F1 calendar, providing both an exhilarating lap for drivers and opportunities to overtake.
