Barcelona’s Catalunya circuit will host the next F1 race, the 2025 Spanish Grand Prix, on June 1 as the championship fight continues into the summer.

With Oscar Piastri leading the title battle by just three points from Lando Norris, and Max Verstappen 25 points behind, the season is shaping up to be the most competitive since 2021.

Summer season

Spain hosts the third of three races in a row before a weekend off. Then the F1 paddock takes a trip to Canada, ahead of the remaining European rounds, including the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on July 6. In 2025, the summer break will take place between the Hungarian Grand Prix on August 3 and the Dutch Grand Prix on August 31.

Season run-in

The final run-in mirrors the 2024 season, with races in Baku and Singapore before an extended run in the Americas: Austin, Mexico, Brazil and Las Vegas precede the final two rounds in Qatar and Abu Dhabi — another triple header to bring the year to a close on December 7.

When is the 2025 Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix?

The third F1 race in successive weeks, this year’s Spanish Grand Prix follows on from races at Imola and Monaco, and takes place on June 1, as part of a standard F1 race weekend. That means there will be two practice sessions on Friday May 30, followed by a final practice on Saturday morning before qualifying on Saturday afternoon at 3pm BST (4pm local time). Sunday’s race starts at 2pm BST or 3pm local time.

Where is the 2025 Spanish Grand Prix?

Barcelona will host the Spanish Grand Prix for the last time in 2025. Although a new Madrid street circuit is due to take its place, Barcelona is expected to appear on next year’s calendar hosting a race under a different name (such as Catalan Grand Prix).

The circuit has been part of the Formula 1 schedule since 1991, the year it was completed. It made an instant impact as Nigel Mansell and Ayrton Senna battled wheel to wheel with sparks flying down the main straight.

Despite the famous image, overtaking has proved tricky at the track although the removal of the final chicane in 2023 now gives drivers the chance to launch an attack with a high-speed run onto the main straight.
