VSCC at Pembrey

Having lost the use of Oulton Park and Cadwell Park, through no fault of its own, the VSCC went to Pembrey, currently Wales's only permanent racing facility, for its meeting on June 26. It worked out extremely well. The 1.456-mile circuit is interestingly twisty, enjoyable for racing on with the older cars, offers good viewing opportunities and, although there is no bridge between the working...

Loton Vintage

Rain avoided Loton Park on May 28 by a narrow margin, as the VSCC ran its hillclimb over the six corners of the interesting 1478-yard course, rented from Hagley & DLCC. Spollon crashed his ERA in practice, slightly hurting himself and R8C more so. So FTD had to lie between Mark Walker and Donald Day. Mark's 6.1-litre Parker-GN stood apparently abandoned until it was time for its driver to...

V-E-V Odds & Ends

Thanks to the generosity of readers some amusing old books have been lent to us. For instance, Mr. Richardson of Sleaford brought his copy of "Engineering Wonders of the World", published around 1910, all the way to the last VSCC Silverstone meeting, to show me an astonishing picture of a French mechanic holding upright a crankcase and crankshaft of a 220 h.p. engine built for the Clement-Bayard...

The VSCC Jubilee

The Vintage SCC's Jubilee celebrations (see Editorial) were happily informal yet they must have done immense good for the whole ancient-cars movement, a tremendous event. With a total entry of some 600 descending on Malvern, so that every hotel forecourt took on a pre-war flavour, you can say that again — the scenic run alone attracted about as many cars as the Club's total 1945 membership! Bravo...

VSCC: Colerne Speed Trials

The VSCC held another genuine speed-trial meeting at Colerne aerodrome on April 25. Open only to members, it was a happy social occasion as well as a means of comparing the performance of a wide diversity of cars. The variety was not confined to cars, either, because there were also races for bicycles of different heights, invalid carriages (which does not, I hope, indicate that the club is...

VSCC Donington

Once again, the Richard Seaman Trophies meeting at Donington on October 1 brought the VSCC racing season to a close and attracted healthy entries for most events, with Tim Llewellyn taking his fourth Vintage Seaman while David Morris took his first Historic Seaman Trophy to add to father Martin's tally of ten victories. The Brookiands Society Trophy featured a varied field, with John Seber's...

VSCC Prescott

One of the better vintage occasions of the year is the VSCC's speed hillclimb at the Bugatti OC's Prescott course. It was certainly near to ideal on August 8, with the weather good, a striking entry of 244 pre-war cars, not materially reduced as there were only 23 non-starters, and an above average crowd, all contained within about 6 1/2 hours, including an hour for those picnic luncheons,...

The VSCC at Oulton Park

THE pilgrimage of the Vintage SCC to OuIton Park for its annual race meeting was as enjoyable as ever, until a shadow was cast over it by a nasty accident to the Hon. Patrick Lindsay. For this reporter the run from Mid-Wales to Cheshire over an interesting route, taking in some Shropshire back ways, was rendered the mom enjoyable because we used an Alfa Romeo GTV 2.0 to enliven and speed up the...

The Donington VSCC Meeting

IN showery weather the annual Vintage SCC race-meeting took place at the well-constituted Donington Park circuit on May 23rd, although the entry was depleted by historic-car activity at Monaco. Donington contrived to off-set this by electronic race-result announcements from the bridge over the course, driver-interviews by Peter Hull over the p.a. system, and local TV coverage for release on the...

VSCC 1982 Finale at Cadwell Park

VSCC 1982 Finale at Cadwell Park THE LAST race meeting of the year for the VSCC took place at the attractive Cadwell Park circuit in Lincolnshire on August 29th, in pleasant weather, before a sprinkling of spectators. This was probably the last VSCC meeting to be held over the present circuit as the lap distance will have been reduced before 1983. Practice had to be stopped for a time when Adrian...
