How many penalty points does each F1 driver have in 2025?

As Max Verstappen edges closer to a race ban, here are the total penalty points each Formula 1 driver has accumulated on their FIA superlicence

Max Verstappen is walking a razor’s edge in the 2025 season after he drove into the side of George Russell‘s Mercedes at the Spanish Grand Prix and received three F1 penalty points as a result.

When added to his previous tally, it means that the four-time champion now has 11 penalty points — just one short of an automatic race ban.

There are plenty of ways that F1 drivers can incur points on their superlicence, from driving too slowly behind the safety car to driving too fast under yellow flags, so Verstappen will have to tread carefully for the next two races in Canada and Austria or risk a suspension that could deal a heavy blow to his championship hopes.

The pressure will ease after those grands prix, as some of Verstappen’s penalty points expire — they do so 12 months after being issued.

While Verstappen currently has the highest penalty points total on the grid, he is far from the only driver to be sanctioned. Here’s a full breakdown of the current penalty points situation up and down the grid, following the Spanish Grand Prix.
