Max Verstappen will be on pole for the 2025 Miami Grand Prix, heading the F1 starting grid alongside Lando Norris, who was six-hundredths of a second off his rival’s time.
Scroll down to see how the full grid will look when it lines up for the sixth grand prix of the season, which starts at 9pm in the UK — 4pm local time in Miami.
Days after the birth of his first child, Verstappen produced a blistering lap to top the table, denying McLaren which again looked to have the fastest car.
Norris, who won the Miami sprint race earlier in the day seemed to accept the brilliance of Verstappen’s pole lap: “Max did a Max lap once again,” he said.
Norris, however, will be buoyed after outpacing his team-mate Oscar Piastri, the current world championship points leader. Piastri is set to start fourth, behind Kimi Antonelli, who followed up his sprint race pole with a GP qualifying lap within a tenth of a second of Verstappen’s.
There was another strong performance for Williams, with Carlos Sainz and Alex Albon starting sixth and seventh, but Ferrari looked lost again. Both drivers were visibly at the limit as they locked up and ran wide during the session. Charles Leclerc could only manage eighth on the grid after crashing on the way to the grid for the sprint race earlier on Saturday.
It was worse for Lewis Hamilton who was eliminated in Q2 and was victim to the close competition: little more than half a tenth of a second split Leclerc, who also finished eighth in Q2, and Hamilton in 12th.
It remains to be seen how relevant the grid positions are for a grand prix in which wet and changeable weather is forecast. Below is the full starting grid as it stands — unless any penalties are applied ahead of the race.
