Verstappen became the youngest F1 podium finisher at the 2016 Spanish Grand Prix, at just 18 years and 228 days of age.

The Dutch driver had been promoted to Red Bull from Toro Rosso for that race to replace Daniil Kvyat.

Verstappen qualified fourth and took advantage of a first-lap crash between the Mercedes drivers Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg which eliminated both from the race.

This opened the door for Verstappen to move up the order, and with a well-executed two-stop strategy and impressive composure under pressure from Ferrari’s Kimi Räikkönen, he held on to win the race.

This victory not only made Verstappen the youngest race winner in Formula 1 history but also the youngest podium finisher and the youngest driver to lead a lap.

Lance Stroll, 2017 Azerbaijan GP

At 18 years and 239 days old, Stroll missed out on Verstappen’s record by only 11 days when he finished on the podium at the 2017 Azerbaijan Grand Prix.

Driving for Williams in his rookie season, Stroll survived a chaotic race in Baku, capitalising on incidents and safety cars to climb up the order.

He held second place until the final straight, where Mercedes’ Valtteri Bottas narrowly overtook him in a drag race to the finish, leaving Stroll to secure third place.

The result made him the youngest rookie ever to stand on an F1 podium and the second youngest overall behind Verstappen.

Kimi Antonelli, 2025 Canadian GP

18 years, 9 months, 21 days

Antonelli had already made headlines as the third youngest driver to start an F1 race when he made his debut with Mercedes at the Australian Grand Prix earlier this year.

In Canada, after just 10 races, the Italian became the third youngest driver to also score a podium at 18 years and 294 days old.

Antonelli finished third in Montreal after resisting intense pressure from championship leader Oscar Piastri, who the Italian had overtaken at the start of the race.

Norris scored his first Formula 1 podium in the 2020 Austrian Grand Prix, the opening race of a season delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Norris qualified fourth but started third due to a grid penalty for Lewis Hamilton.

Throughout the race, Norris battled in the top five and, after a late safety car, he made a decisive move on Sergio Perez to move up the order.

In the final laps, Norris pushed to close the gap to Hamilton, who had received a five-second penalty for a collision with Alexander Albon, and finished just close enough to Hamilton to be promoted to third place after the penalty was applied.

This result made Norris, at 20 years, 7 months, and 22 days old, the third youngest podium finisher in Formula 1 history at the time.

Sebastian Vettel, 2008 Italian GP

At just 21 years and 73 days old, Vettel stunned the paddock by taking pole position for Toro Rosso in wet conditions at Monza, becoming the youngest ever pole-sitter at the time.

In the race, he delivered a flawless performance, leading almost every lap and holding off more experienced drivers to secure his and his team’s maiden F1 victory.

This win made Vettel not only the youngest podium finisher and race winner in F1 history at that point, but also marked the first and only victory for the Toro Rosso team.

The Faenza squad would go on to win again, but under the AlphaTauri name.
